DESCRIPTION: EPW - Francis Perigal, London, cylinder fusee, 47mm, silver OF original case bearing London hallmarks for 1824, incuse "G C" for casemaker George Conen, deep foliate engraving detail to band and pendant, white enamel dial, hacking slide under dial at 4:30, KWKS (key not included with this lot), white enamel dial, cylinder escapement with sugar tongs compensation curb, gilt mvt with elaborately engraved crescent shaped plate and with pierced and foliate scrolled two-footed balance bridge, signed gilt locking dust-cap, s#21073 with matching serial number to dust-cap. An interesting piece by one of the finest London makers of the late 18th to early 19th century, the sugar tongs compensation as seen on this movement is more commonly found among early pocket chronometers.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good hacking function, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered surface scratches; dial with perimeter hl between 2:30 and 4, small bit of black loss to 1 numeral; fine mismatched hands, hour and minute with portions of finish loss, hour hand is plum colored, minute and seconds-hand are blue; case rear with play at its hinge and one perimeter hinge knuckle with metal split, case shows light wear, an attractive patina, some fine scratches and profuse micro-fine scratches, cuvette with scratches at perimeter from misguided past attempts to open, cuvette with few dings at center, reduced engraving detail; tight bow; glass crystal with some small scratches and nicks.
